Evros

Evros County is situated in the North Eastern most Greece and has the eastern most land border of the EU with Asian Countries. The remotest region of mainland Greece it borders to the north and northwest with Bulgaria , to the east with Turkey , to the west the county of Rodopi and to the south is the Aegean sea . Evros was inhabited in pre-historic times and was a spring of culture, for the people that passed through or permanently settled in the area. Te capitol of Evros county is Alexandroupoli, which is the most important transport of all Thrace because of its airport and port, With the administrative arrangements the county consists of 13 municipalities and of 5 provinces: Alexandroupoli, Soufli, Didimotiho, Orestaida and Samothraki. Samothraki is the only island in Thrace . It has a land area of 178 km2 of mountainous land, and the distance from Alexandroupolis is 22 nautical miles.

The climate is temperate with cold winters and hot summers. The winter is milder on the coast of the island and the south f Samothraki. The Rodopi mountain range, which extends to Evros county provides the area with special interest it is certainly worth visiting.

Museums

Religious, Ecclesiastic, Historical, Folklore Association of Ancient's Heritage Friends, Plant and Animals Museum of Evro's Delta. This museum was established by the municipality of Alexandroupoli , to take advantage of the collection of stuffed birds and animals of Christo Gutner, who has studied the life of the Evros Delta for 50 years. Recently, the exhibits were moved to a room specially designed in the Center of Art and Culture “G.Vizinos”
